I Made a Trade

Today, I made a trade with a new member of TSD. He was looking to getting into straight razor shaving, and I had a str8 and a strop that I was not using. I contacted him and made a proposal. I had traded away my Mitchell's Wool Fat last year, and I thought this might me a good trade for both of us. So,  I traded my str8 and strop for a new puck of MWF. I also included some surprises for the fun of it.

J.M. Schmid & Sons

Here they are packed up and ready to take to the PO.

UPDATE: Package mailed out Saturday morning, 2/21.
Thomas reported that he had ordered the MWF, and it should arrive here Feb 26-Mar 3.

February 26

Shave of the Day - 2/8

Nivea Men's Face Wash
ARKO Stick
Jayaruh #3 Pure Badger (First Shave)
J.M. Schmid & Son Str8
Gillette Fat Handle Tech
Personna Stainless
CWR, Asma Alum Block
Thayers Lemon WH
FD Old Spice AS

The ARKO Stick face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #3 Pure Badger Brush. This was the first shave with this brush. It did a good job though a little scritchy. I used my J.M. Schmid & Son Str8 on my cheeks and neck, and used my Gillette Fat Handle Tech and a Personna Stainless Blade to finish up a close, comfortable shave in two passes. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then FD Old Spice after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

I was going to just shave my cheeks with the str8, but I got adventurous and went for the neck and upper lip as well. I decided to forego the chin; just too round. Anyhow, I suffered no nicks or cuts. The FHT did a great job of finishing up.

Kiss My Face Cool Mint moisture shave
VDH Natural Boar
J.M. Schmid & Son 6/8 str8
Schick M Adjustable
Schick Injector Stainless Blade
CWR
Thayers Cucumber WH
Mennen SB AS

My strop came in yesterday, so today I stropped the J.M. Schmid. The Kiss My Face Cool Mint moisture shave face lathered well with the VDH Natural Boar. I used the str8 on my cheeks and finished everything else with two passes of the Schick M adjustable and Schick blade. It was a mighty fine shave. I finished off with a cold water rinse followed by Thayers Cucumber WH and Mennen Skin Bracer after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Shave of the Day - 7/3

Noxzema Classic Clean
Van Der Hagen Luxury Shave Soap
VDH Natural Boar
J.M. Schmid & Son 6/8 straight (first time)
Schick M Adjustable
Schick Injector Stainless Blade
CWR
Thayers Cucumber WH
Mennen SB AS

The VDH Luxury Shave soap face lathered well with VDH Natural Boar brush as cheap soap month continues. Today, I used my new vintage J.M. Schmid straight razor for the first time. I was going to just do my right cheek, but that went so well that I switched hands and did my left cheek as well. I finished off with my Schick M Adjustable and Schick stainless blade. After a second pass, I had achieved my close, comfortable shave. A cold water rinse, followed by Thayers cucumber WH  and Mennen Skin Bracer after shave left me clean, smooth, and refreshed... Since my strop won't arrive until Saturday, I will wait until then to revisit the J.M. Schmid.

I Won a New Vintage Straight

I went on The Shave Den forum today and saw a post for a straight razor pif. The gentleman was offering five different vintage razors.

He said, to enter, I had to choose two and PM him. I know very little about straights, so I PMed him that I liked #1 and #5. I was one of the five guys to get a new razor. I got No.5, the J.M. Schmid razor. That is all I know about it, except he said that it has a excellent edge.

He said it would be shave ready when I receive it, but I would need a strop to maintain the edge. So, now, I am in the market for a strop. More to come...

Update: July 2

It arrived today.

Planned shave for July 3

I got this strop for maintaining the razor.
