I had a request for a Woody razor, so I thought I would make two. The improved part is the blade stops in contrasting wood. Here are some pictures.
The light wood is birdseye maple and the darker wood is mahogany. The blade stops are wenge.
Two coats of polycrylic.
I did a test shave and attempted to video it, but my battery died in the middle. I learned though that the comb was too long, so I modified it. Next day, I shaved with it and it was just right. Here is the video. I did the first pass with the Woody 3 and the last pass with my Gem Junior lather catcher.
I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The CTAPT Shaving Cream face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #288 Synthetic brush. I did two passes with the Jayaruh Wooden SE OC Razor with a CVS Carbon Steel SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Peach WH and then English Leather AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
I have been thinking of making a wooden razor for a long time. So, yesterday, all that thinking came to life. I used some scrap wood I had on hand. The handle was made of two types of wood laminated together for this purpose. I actually shaved with the razor this morning. I did the first pass with it and then finished up with my Damaskeene OC razor. I will do a full shave with the wooden razor tomorrow and make a video.
I started by making the teeth.
Using an old blade, I marked off boundaries and did some dremmel work on the teeth.
Here I am gluing up the head with the handle.
I could not figure an efficient way to hold the blade, so I opted for a bulldog clip. I do have razor stops, but I needed to secure the razor to keep it flat.
Here it is after two coats of polycrylic.
Update: I took a little off of each side and shortened the teeth. I also notched the bulldog clamp so it would go onto the blade a little further.
