Re-knotting Jayaruh #220

 I must admit, I have never been fond of the synthetic knot I had put in #220. So, today, I decided to take it to the next level. I removed the old knot and replaced it with a two-band badger.  That will be a big improvement.

dubl duck #4 Reknot

This dubl duck #4 brush is coming to me for a reknot. Today, I received the donor brush, Omega 10049. I have harvested the knot and prepped for the reknot.

The donor brush arrived today: Omega 10049.

I am getting good at removing the knot by hand.

I sawed down opposite sides of the ferrule to loosen it from the knot.

I pried the  ferrule apart to remove it from the plug.

Next, I covered the hairs to protect them and then used my dremmel to prep the plug.

Here is the knot ready for its new home.

The brush arrived today along with two soaps. Cool.

I worked hard to make a hole for the knot. Here is the Omega 48 dry fitted.

The ferrule separated from the handle during the process, but I ultimately superglued it back.

Here is the prepared hole.

I polished the handle and painted the letters.

Knotting and Re-knotting

I got two handles, a brush, and three knots in the mail today. I am doing a little job for a fellow shaver. It started out as a re-knot for JR#41, but he asked if I would set the knots in two other handles he had. Of course, I said yes. The first two pictures show the two handles with their respective knots "dry fitted."

Here are the three brush handles with their respective knots. I had to remove the old badger knot from #41. I replaced it with a Maggard two-band badger.

Here they are awaiting their final setting. I am using hot glue to set the knots. 

Here they are all done. I will send them back to Perry tomorrow.

Surrey Reknot

I received this Surrey brush from Perry in Alabama for a reknot. 

I removed the knot and cleaned out the hole to prepare it for the new knot.

I ordered three two-band badgers from Ace Shaving in China. They came in today, so I chose the best of the three to put in the handle.

After preparing the handle and dry fitting the knot this is what I had.

I decided to set the knot with silicone. Here it is in its new home: the Surrey Reknot.
