Made-Rite 12 First Lathering

Made-Rite 12 Restore

 I got this Made-Rite 12 on eBay. I have been wanting a green a brush for a while, and this fit the bill. It also gave me something I can practice a restore on.

Moving  to the outside to remove the knot and start the restore.

I cut the bristles off in preparation for removal of the knot.

Here I have removed the knot with my Dremel.

 Using a buffer pad on my Dremel, I cleaned up the outside of the handle.

 The bottom had some cracks. I will clean it up as best I can and go from there.

 I had to make the opening a little bigger to accommodate this boar knot. It is going to look pretty good when I am through.

New Razor and Brush

First up is the Gillette Super 84 Adjustable. The 84 references the length of the handle, 84mm. It is a U4 which translates to the 4th quarter of 1974.

This is the Made-Rite #12. I want to do a restore on it when it arrives.

Today's home-made soap was the Ian de Candre. I loaded my Made Rite boar brush for about 20 seconds, and it face-lathered easily, making some nice creamy lather. It had plenty of cushion and was slick. It also had a faint, pleasant scent that I cannot describe. However, two passes with my 1914 Ever-Ready razor and Gem Super Stainless blade left me with a close, comfortable shave. Today, I face-lathered a soap by @maltedmilk at The Shave Den called "1914 American Druggist Recipe." Using my Made Rite boar brush, I loaded for 30+ seconds. I got airy lather that disipated before the pass was over. It was slick though but not too friendly to my skin. I did two passes with my Ever-Ready 1914 and Gem Super Stainless blade giving me a close, audible shave. After my cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Cucumber WH and Aqua Velva Ice Blue after shave. I had intended to give this soap three chances, but I think one will do it. Tomorrow I will try the IdC. It has more promise.
