November Adjustables Month

OK, here is the line up for November, excluding weekends. I am going to have an adjustables theme. I will still do my straights on Saturdays and my Gem Jr. Lather Catcher on Sundays, but the rest of the week I will be using one of these razors. I have chosen to take them in chronological order.

Gillette 195, Gillette Slim, Gillette Super 84, Gillette 190 Black Beauty, Schick M2 Adjustable, Bunny V3, Parker Variant, Rockwell 6C, Ming Shi.

Gillette Adjustables Compared

I now own four of the Gillette Adjustable razor types, so I thought I would redo my comparison graphic. I made measurements with my new digital calipers. The weights were gleaned from the Internet. Gillette also made a bottom dial and a toggle. The bottom dial and toggle are very hard to come by and when you do, they are very expensive.

The Fatboy or 195 is the shortest and heftiest of the four razors. Its handle is the "fattest" of the three. The Slim's handle is about the thickness of  a standard pencil. The Super 84 is just a tad longer than the Slim. The Super 109 has the longest handle at about 4 inches and is about mid-way thickness between the Fatboy and Slim. The Super-84 and Super-109 are also referred to as Black Beauties.

Today's shave will be brought to by my friend, Don in South Florida. Thanks to him I finally have my Black Beauty, and it is a beauty. 

The Mitchell's Wool Fat face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #2 Synthetic brush. Two passes with my Gillette Super Adjustable razor (set on 5) and a Astra SP blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. It was an excellent shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then Pinaud Clubman after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Black Beauty on the Way

I found out today that my friend, Don, in South Florida, is sending me a Gillette Super Adjustable, AKA Black Beauty. It is from the fourth quarter of 1969, and it is in excellent condition.

Here are pictures he sent along. I will post pictures when it arrives. I look forward to adding it to my collection and putting it into rotation.
