 This 400 type brush is made from Patagonian Rosewood. The knot is a 30mm Timberwolf Grey Synthetic from Maggard Razors.

Jayaruh #420 Completed

 Jayaruh #420 is made of Bolivian Rosewood. The handle is 84mm high. The knot was harvested from an Omega 20102. It measures 28x53mm in the finished brush.

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Williams Mug Shaving Soap face lathered well with B-400 by Tom brush. I did two passes with the Schick E2b razor with a Personna blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Granddad's Blend AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Jayaruh #317 is a 400 type brush made from oak. The handle is 82mm, and the 2-band badger is 25x55mm.

Alpha T-400 Brush

I just received this brush from Steve Tinter in Hong Kong. He is responsible for bringing this retro design back to life in his Alpha brush. I also got a variety of knots from Steve. Now I can move forward with some of my brushes. This one has a silvertip badger 25x49mm. He sent along a second ferrule that I will use for a different knot, to be determined.

 I did a first lathering with the brush. The knot is a silvertip badger. I used Eureka Shaving Soap for the test.

I loaded it for 30 seconds.

I will be putting the brush through its paces next week starting Monday.

Omega Pro 49 Knot Harvest

I just received this brush today. I am harvesting the knot to go in a Rubberset 400 handle.

I use a 5/16th drill bit to remove the knot.
I drill through the bottom and it pushes the knot out the top.

I put the not in a vice and use a hack saw to saw through the ferrule.

I cover the hairs and then clean up the plug on my belt sander.

All done. Ready for the Rubberset 400 handle.

Update: 5/21/18

The Rubberset 400 brush handle arrived today, and I fitted and set the Omega Pro 49 knot in it.

No interim photos for this one. The first three are after I did the initial shaping. I had a ferrule left over that I put on it.

I put flutes on the handle and sealed/stained it with colonial maple and then finished it with polycrylic. I topped it off with the brown synthetic knot. This is going to be a sweet brush.

I made #257 at the same time as I did #256, so I call them sister brushes.  #257 is made from Louisiana cypress. Here they are fresh off the lathe and having the flutes crafted.

Next, these are pictures of dry fitting knots after I had put a polycrylic finish on the handles. Later, I would decide to use the Maggard synthetic horse on both.

Here is #257 with its faux horse.

This brush did not hang around very long. It was adopted very quickly. I reluctantly let it go knowing that I can make another one. The only thing is, I may not be getting any more of the Louisiana cypress.
