Reworking the Scales on the Wade & Butcher

When I originally made the scales for my Wade & Butcher, I was over jealous and ended up cracking one of the scales. I set it aside for about a week. Today, I decided to see if I could rework the scales and redeem my mistake.

Cracked scale.

In this picture, I have taken the razor apart. I sawed through the wedge and reduce its size. I glued and clamped the cracked scale. After much sanding, I aligned the scales and glued the wedge end together.  I had bought a small 4 oz. jewelers hammer for peening the ends.

I peened the wedge end first.

I got both ends done without any issues.

The blade centers very nicely.

Wade & Butcher Straight Arrives

Today, I received my new to me Wade & Butcher straight razor. I traded the Jayaruh #155 for this razor. It has what is called a Spanish Tip. It is pre-1891, so it is my oldest razor yet.

The Omega 49 knot came in today, and my son, David, helped me prep the knot for the handle. The picture above is of the knot dry fitted and ready to be set. I will be setting it with silicone before sending it out to its new home. Mrchick of TSD and I made a trade. He is sending me a Wade & Butcher straight.

Update; April 1, 2017

The brush is complete. I set the knot with silicone, and it will go out in Monday's mail to its new home in California.
