Personna Twin Plus Blade

 I have planned to shave with my Trac II clone with a Personna Twin Plus blade. The Personna Twin Plus has a lubricating strip and can be used with any Trac II type or Atra type razor. I have the clone version of Trac II and an original Gillette Atra. These blades are very good and can be bought on Amazon for as little as $.14 each when bought in quantities of 100.

I'm going to try out my "new" Atra razor for the next week. I haven't shaved with any cartridge razor in about 4 years. This one dates back to the year my second son was born (1977).

The TABAC Shaving Cream face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #62 Synthetic brush. I was pleasantly surprised at the shave today. Two passes and touch ups with the Gillette Atra with a Dorco Comfort Thin II blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. I like that the cartridge is designed to give lots of flow through. It was very easily rinsed between passes with no clogging. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with T.N. Dickinson's WH and then Aqua Velva Ice Blue After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Treasures from the Flea Market

I found these three razors at the flea market today: Trac II, Atra, and Slim.

The Trac II handle is probably not a Gillette handle, but it accepts the Trac II cartridges. The handle is a nice wood, maybe walnut. I shaved with the Trac II for a number of years before Gillette introduced the Atra.

The Atra accepted a two blade cartridge and pivoted up and down as you shaved. I really liked the Atra, but when the Sensor came out, I moved up to the Sensor. This Atra is an X4 which means that it was made the fourth quarter of 1977. It was also the first year the Atra was made and the year and quarter that our son Tim was born. It is a very special handle indeed.

Next is the Gillette Slim. It is a H2. It was made the second quarter of 1962. 

It cleaned up pretty good.

Today, I found a Gillette Atra handle in the wild. It is an X4, fourth quarter 1977. The Atra was introduced in 1977, so that makes it special. It is even more special, because it is the birth year/quarter of our second son, Tim.

It cleaned up very nicely.
