Getting Ready for SEptember

SEptember will be Single Edge razor month for me, so I have picked out six razors that I will be using during the month. I made a razor stand that will hold seven razors, and I will be using it to keep the razors straight. I will use them in order and then start over. Since there are six, I will be using each razor five times during the month.

From left to right: Bunny V-3 injector, Schick L-1 injector, my Dad's Schick E-3 injector, Schick C , GEM 1912, and GEM G-Bar.

Jayaruh #100: First Lather

For the first lather with my Jayaruh #100 brush with two-band badger knot, I used Razorock Classic Artisan Shaving Soap. I did not soak the brush; I merely wet it, shook it off, and did a light squeeze. I loaded the brush for about 25 seconds and began to make lather in my big green glass bowl. The handle has a great feel to it. It worked great for lathering in a bowl. I am very happy with the way it created the lather. I got lots of lather: enough for several passes.

I will be putting the #100 into action starting SEptember 1. I will go back to face lathering though. It is my preferred method. I will be using The Shave Den's Iced Lime shaving soap stick.

Jayaruh Razor Stand

A member on TSD suggested I make a donut razor stand. I was a bit confused, but I finally figured it out, so here is what I did.

I glued up a blank using oak and purple heart woods.

Here I trimmed it up to make it square.

Next, I cut off the corners to make it an octagonal shape.

I drilled a 5/8 inch hole in the center.

I began to shape the stand.

This is a test of the new stand.

I sanded it and sanded it, then put a coat of polyurethane on it. Here it is almost dry.

All done. Here it is with matching pieces.

Four Brushes Finished Today

The Virginia Sheng two-band badger knots arrived today, so I was able to complete the #96, #97, and #100 brushes.

Then there is the Jayaruh #102. I glued up the handle last week and cut it out. Today, I decided to make a stubby handle out of it. It was just the right size and color for the Maggard 22mm synthetic knot.

Jayaruh #102

This is an Oreo brush handle: chocolate walnut on the outside and vanilla hickory on the inside. It is a chubby handle is a great match for the Maggard 22mm synthetic.

Defunking the WD High Mountain Badger

Although it did not have a bad smell, I went ahead and followed the directions for defunking this new HMB knot. Larry sends a packet of Oxi Clean Stain Remover along with directions.

I dissolved the Oxi Clean in warm water and began the first soak.

After a couple of minutes, I rinsed the knot and began the second soak.

After the second soak, I rinsed it and began the third soak.

After the third soak, I rinsed and began the last soak.

After the last soak, I rinsed and then gave it a shampoo with some C.O. Bigelow Hair & Body Wash. I let it sit a couple of minutes before the final rinse.

After the final rinse, I towel dried the knot and set it aside to dry. It looks like it is going to bloom nicely.
