The Woody Improved: #2 and #3

I had a request for a Woody razor, so I thought I would make two. The improved part is the blade stops in contrasting wood. Here are some pictures.

The light wood is birdseye maple and the darker wood is mahogany. The blade stops are wenge.

Two coats of polycrylic.

I did a test shave and attempted to video it, but my battery died in the middle. I learned though that the comb was too long, so I modified it. Next day, I shaved with it and it was just right. Here is the video. I did the first pass with the Woody 3 and the last pass with my Gem Junior lather catcher.

Ever-Ready Bathroom Set - Made in England

I got this Ever-Ready razor in a trade. I believe it is mismatched with the case. The case is from a peerless, but the razor is from a Bathroom Set. It was made after WWII. The handle is turned aluminum. There was a shortage of brass after the war. It came in today, and it looks great. I also got some bonus blades, too: a ten pack of GEM Blue STAR Single Edge blades and a tuck of Wilkinson Sword Light Brigade Chromium Edge Double Edge blades.

Before cleaning

 I put the razor and case through my Dawn solution bath and toothbrush scrub routine. These pictures are after the cleaning.

The Snake Bite is a wonderfully mentholated shave soap that lathers easily and does a great job of protecting. I did two passes with the TNNSER Razor with a Pal CS SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. This third shave with the TNNSER was flawless. Jayaruh #301 and 302

My son, Phil, was here yesterday and he brought me some cedar that he got off his father-in-law's property. Today, I took one of the pieces and began to cut it down into usable sizes. Unfortunately, I found out this piece had several nails in it. Being very careful, I was able to get through them with my carbide tipped blade. Then I continued cutting it up avoiding the nails. I got eight pieces out of it.

I went ahead and turned two handles. They are designated JR #301 and JR #302.  Here they are after I branded them and put the first coat of polycrylic on them. I am out of knots, so I just ordered some. They should be here by the end of next week. Then, I will finish off these two brushes.

I ordered a couple of silvertip badgers and two synthetic horse knots.
