I did two passes with the 1907 Gem Jr. Lather Catcher razor with a Vintage Gem Cutlery blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. Jayaruh #339

I messed up the original #339, so this is a redo of that handle. I did this one without the lathe. I cut the blank down on the table saw to an octagonal shape and then took it to my drum sander for shaping.

Octagonal blank ready to be shaped.

The blank has been rounded off using the drum sander.

I marked some strategic spots on the blank.

The waist is started.

I start the diagonal flutes.

The hole is marked off.

The base is marked off.

More sanding.

I put the hole in the top. Almost there.
I stained and sealed the handle with a golden peacan stain/seal, and finished it with two coats of polycrylic. I put the JR 339 on the bottom. These pictures are of the brush with the Omega 49 boar knot dry fitted.

Harvesting an Omega 49 Knot for Jayaruh #339

I show how I harvested two knots from Omega 49 brushes. I also show Jayaruh #339 after I finished shaping it, sealing and staining it, and dry fitting it with the Omega 49 boar.

Jayaruh #338 and #339

Today, I got out on a beautiful day to try something new in brush making. I cut two blanks on a 45 degree angle to the grain. I used mostly sanding and a dremel to shape the brushes. You will notice that on the bottom of the handles I have made flutes on a 45 degree angle, too. I made a video of the nearly finished products featuring the Omega 49 boar knot in 338 and the Maggard blonde synthetic knot in 339.

Here are some still pictures.

 This is #338.

This is #339.
