I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Valobra Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #285 brush. I did two passes with the Heljestrand Safety Razor with a Heljestrand Wedge blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Mennen Skinbracer AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Heljestrand Lather Catcher?

I asked the question, "Is the Heljestrand Safety Razor considered a lather catcher?" The consensus was that it is. I took these pictures.

New Arrivals: C.V. Heljestrand and Three Ladies Razors

I did a trade for a 400 type brush with a fellow TSDer in Canadia. I traded for the C.V. Heljestrand Safety Razor, and he threw in these three vintage ladies razors. They take proprietary blades except for the middle on that takes a standard DE blade.

Kewtie razor, Unknown cuved razor with bakelite handle, Myatt razor

Next is the C.V. Heljestrand Safety Razor, made in Sweden. It takes a wedge blade or a modern SE Gem type blade.

It came with two blades that will need some magic. I am going to ask Tom White for help.

Another Trade

I am making a trade with a fellow TSDer in Canadia. He wants a 400 style brush with a boar knot, but he is trying to complete a No Buy 2018. Fortunately, trades don't count as buys. We discussed several possibilities, and when he suggested a CV Heljestrand Safety Razor, my interest was peaked.

Here is the picture he sent:

It has two wedges that can probably be restored with an edge. In the picture is a piece that does not fit with the razor but was with it when he got the razor. I will be making a new 400 style brush from a yet to be chosen wood and knotting it with an Omega boar. I will call it Jayaruh #267.

March 1: Here are some better pictures that came today.

Shave of the Day - 1/12

Proraso Pre Shave
Williams Mug Shaving Soap
B-400
CV Heljestrand Safety Razor
Henckels Wedge
CWR
Thayer's Lemon WH
Pinaud Vanilla

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Williams Mug Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the B-400 badger brush. I did two passes with the CV Heljestrand Safety Razor with a Henckels Wedge blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Pinaud Vanilla AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

This will be my last shave with the Heljestrand. It finished very well. I got a great shave. It makes picking a favorite of the two very hard. I think though that I prefer the Henckels' comb to the Heljestrand's. As far as the quality of shave goes, it is a toss up. The blade today seemed better than the last time I shaved with it. I just stropped in on the leather about 40 times and put it away to send on Monday. Tomorrow, I will return to straights, but Sunday, the Henckels will be up for my last shave of the Pass Around. Thanks again, Tom , for this fantastic opportunity.

Shave of the Day - 1/8

Proraso Pre Shave
Proraso

CWR
Thayer's Lemon WH
Pinaud Vanilla

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Proraso Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the B-400 badger brush. I did two passes with the CV Heljestrand Safety Razor with a Henckels wedge blade. This razor has a long handle and is on the heavy side. It requires a light touch. I ended up with a close, comfortable shave with no blood. That is always a plus. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Pinaud Vanilla AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
