May PIF

I will be doing a PIF in May in conjunction with Andrew of Andrew's Shave Shop on Etsy. He contacted me and said that he had a couple of Schick E3s coming that had bum handles. He wondered if I would be interested in making wooden handles for them and piffing them and that he would spot the shipping. I said, "Yes, Iwould love to do that." So they are on the way, and today, I got outside on this beautiful North Cackalacky day and worked on the handles. I had two St. Louis Slugger stubs left that I thought would work just right for the handles. So, that was the last of the SLS stubs. Here are the handles so far. I will post more when I get the razors.

April 30

The razors arrived today.

Two Schick Gs and an empty blade key.
I cleaned up the heads and fitted them to the handles. I stained one with a pecan stain and one with a dark walnut stain.

I finished the handles with several coats of lacquer.

I glued the heads into the handles with super glue.

Received Big PIF

In the mail today was a medium size Priority Mail box from  Texas. Tony, AKA omaney on TSD. It contained 5 synthetic knots, two boar knots, three donor brushes, a four pack of spectrapoly blanks, a blank of cocobolo, and a blank of ebony gaboon. A big thanks to Tony for this great PIF. It will be fun putting each of these pieces to work.

March PIF

The Bottom-Dial Toggle Executive PIF

March is PIF month at The Shave Den. I have been wanting to do this pif for a while. For this PIF I wrote:

The mythical Bottom-Dial Toggle Executive is the Bigfoot or Sasquatch of the wet-shaving world. It is so rare that I made it up myself. So, if you win this pif, I will include a picture of it for you.

In the PIF were a user grade MMOC, an Ever-Ready 1912, my home made scuttle, and an assortment of shaving cream samples.

To enter, one had to provide a photo of Bigfoot or Sasquatch or something similar and say, "I'm in."

I made a collage of the photos.

I finished up the PIF on Monday, March 28. I got the package ready to go. There was a last place winner also who got an assortment of ten DE blades.

The PIF Arrived Today

I won this PIF last Sunday, it was mailed out Monday, and today, Wednesday, it arrived. In addition to the originally advertised offering, there are fourteen soap samples, a baggie full of aftershave samples, and a great stainless steel fat handle.

These are before and after pictures of the MMOC and Old Type.

I Just Won a PIF

This is a PIF by Skinny Rogers over at The Shave Den. I just found out that my name was chosen as the winner. There are two nice user grade razors: Gillette Old Type and GEM Micromatic Open Comb. Proraso Shaving Cream, Speick After Shave, Mystic Water Shaving Soap, and I Coloniali Delicate Shaving Cream rounded out the PIF.

I will be getting up a PIF in about a week. Thanks, Skinny Rogers, for getting together this great PIF.

"New to Me" PIF Completed

On December 31 I opened the "New to Me" PIF on The Shave Den forum. Up for grabs was a Merkur 15c open comb razor and a Vie Long horse hair brush. The Merkur 15c was too mild for me, and I had too many other brushes I enjoy more than the Vie Long. So, they need a new home. I also included 10 DE blades. There were 12 entrants, and the winner was chosen on January 11. The first place winner was FatherofSquirrel. I also gave 10 blades to the last place in the drawing: hrairy.

Schick J PIF

This is my Schick J-2 that I got in a lot of razors on eBay back in September 2015. Its run was from 1958 to 1964. It was not getting as much love as it deserved (only 16 shaves since I got it). I did use it this year for a week during SEptember where the focus was on single edge razors. My friend, Don, on TSD had not tried an injector yet, so I offered to send him this one. He was excited to give it a try.

The metal part is in mint condition, but the handle has a few dings on it. They do not affect function. I cleaned it up and put a new blade in it, and Thursday, I finally got it sent out to him. I hope he enjoys it. It is a great little shaver. The long handle offers a new dimension of control.

Shave of the Day - 5/5

Dove Men Face Wash
TOBS St. James Collection (first shave)
Jayaruh WC1 Silver Tip
Schick E2
Personna Stainless
CWR, Asma Alum Block
Thayers Rose Petal WH
FD Old Spice

The TOBS St. James Collection Luxury shaving cream ( a pif from Redrock at TSD) face-lathered well with my Jayaruh WC1 Silver Tip badger brush. Two passes with my Schick E2  razor and a Personna Stainless blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then FD Old Spice after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
