Omega Knot Harvesting

I ordered these two Omega brushes a while back for their knots. Today, I decided it was time to harvest the knots. I have a 400 type brush to do, so I will use one of these boar knots in it.

First I drilled a hole in the bottom of each of the handles and inserted a spike in the end in preparation for removing the knot.

I then lined up the spike and hit it down on a hard surface a couple of times and the knot just pops right out.

I then put the knot in a vice an used a hack saw to cut through the ferrule.

I used a file to pry the ferrule apart so that the knot was able to be taken out.

Now that the knots were freed, it was time to prepare them for their new handles.

I wrapped the knots with painter's tape and used my dremel to dress the ends of the plug. They were 27mm, and I brought them down to 25mm.

Here they are ready for their new handles.
