Ralf Aust 5/8 Is Home

The Ralf Aust 5/8 arrived on Friday just in time for Saturday Straights. The shave was very nice. I recorded it without any blood. It was definitely a Pretty Good Shave. I took a couple of close ups that did not show up well on the video. First is the etching on the blade and then the name on the tang.

It has the "Solinger Handarbeit" - handmade in Solingen - mark on the blade with an anchor and lighthouse and the "Ralf Aust Solingen" mark on the tang.

Fatip Grande / Ralf Aust Straight

I got this razor recently from Charlie in Kentucky. He received a box of shaving stuff from Chris Massey's Dad. Chris passed away the first part of March and his Dad wanted his gear to go to good homes. Charlie contacted me and I received some soaps, a straight, and this Fatip Grande. I have heard of its reputation as an aggressive razor, so I used my skills to tame it. I have shaved with it all week, and I have gotten very close shaves.

The  straight was a Ralf Aust straight. It had a nick in the edge, so I have sent it off for a refurbishing of the edge.

Box 83 Started

 I cut out some wood for Box 83 last night. The box is for Charlie in Kentucky. He has a special Fatboy to go in it. Today was a beautiful day to work outside, so I did. The wood is Patagonian Rosewood. I came up a little short, so I used a piece of oak for the bottom. Here is what I have for now. It still needs to be finished with polycrylic and lined with felt. Then I will install the hardware.
