British Gillette New, SOD 3/18

I picked up this Rise Shave Cream at the Dollar Tree for $1. It's a brushless shave cream, and this is my first shave with it. I was very surprised with its performance. It is very slick and does provide protection against irritation, but it is virtually invisible on the face, so you have to remember where you shaved. After the first pass, there was enough slickness for a second pass. It rinses clean, also. It will do when I have to do a quick shave, but I miss making my own lather.

Also new today was a British Gillette New I just won on eBay. I put a new Shark blade in it and had my first shave with it. It was an easy shave.

Brush/Razor Rack

On March 8, I made this rack initially for brushes. But I decided that I might be able to use it for both brushes and razors. So, here's how it worked out.

The brushes are reflected in the mirror. On the left is my Tweezerman badger brush, chrome handle badger brush, and my vintage Burma Shave boar bristle brush. On the bottom row is a Schick E2 (single-edged injector), Gem Feather Weight (single-edged flip top), and my Gillette New (double-edged open comb).

Gem Feather Weight

I just received this sweet Gem Feather Weight I won on eBay. I got it all cleaned up, and I will be trying it out tonight. It is supposed to be a great single-edged razor.  This is the one I remember seeing in the 50s.

Gem Feather Weight

The verdict is in. Had a great BBS first shave with the new Gem Feather Weight. It was as if there was no blade in the razor. I did two passes and a  touch up for a baby's bottom smooth shave.

Van Der Williams Shaving Soap

I bought some Williams Mug Shaving Soap yesterday ($1.10) and tried it out. It was pretty good. This morning, I made me some Van Der Williams and used it for the first time. I like it. I was a big fan of VDH Deluxe already. The new Van Der Williams is a great combination.

Tonight, I am going to try out the Williams soap as a shower soap. I got the idea on the Badger & Blade shave forum.

Shave of the Day 3/4

Today's Wilkinson Sword Classic Double Edge blade retains the original precision-honed Wilkinson Sword edge, but has been improved by Wilkinson's famous triple coating process of chromium to resist corrosion, ceramic for added durability, and PTFE for less irritation.

New Photos

These are pictures of my Gillette New after it was plated with bright nickel. The New was made in the 1930s.  This one has the original bar handle.  In the last picture, I replaced the bar handle with the handle from  my Edwin Jagger 89. That handle is much heavier and gives the razor a good balance. The original bar handle is hollow and light.

Pinaud Clubman After Shave

I just got a bottle of Pinaud After Shave. This is the first time I have used this AS. The scent goes way back. It is a classic scent reminiscent of old time barber shops. It is the AS that the barber would splash on your neck after he trimmed it with a straight razor. I used it today for the first time after a very nice shave.

Clubman after shave lotion is the quintessential after shave. This after shave lotion fragrance burst with top notes of orange, bergamot and mouth-watering lemon with green nuances throughout. The floral heart of jasmine, orange flower and geranium dance with lavender and is completed with a warm musk background.
