New Handle for E3

This is my FrankenSchick from an earlier post. Today, I found me a piece of wood in my stash and fashioned a new handle for this Schick E3. It's a nice length, and I anticipate that it will "handle" well also. I am looking forward to trying it out in the next few days.

FrankenSchick E3

I got this razor (a Schick E3) on eBay, and it came with a faux bone handle. The handle disintegrated, so I replaced the handle with a handle from one of my old files. It lives on once more, and it actually shaves pretty good.

I intend to make a new handle for it later. It will be some kind of wood, but I don't know what kind right now.

Update (1/29):
I painted the handle with some black acrylic paint.

Van Der Hagen Luxury Soap, VDH Apothecary Shaving Bowl,
Parker Black Badger Brush, FrankenShick Razor

Schick E2

This is my newest old razor, the Schick E2. It was produced in the late 1930s.

The spring swivels to the left to loosen the head for cleaning. I imagine that the powers that be decided that this feature opened the door to unintentional cuts and so discontinued this design.

The E3 and beyond have a locked spring so that the head cannot be easily disassembled. The Schick has the coolest way to change blades of all razors. IMHO.

The safety bar on the E2 is smooth. The E3 had parallel grooves along the length of the bar. This particular razor is aggressive for some reason. I probably won't be using this in my rotation. It will just go in my collection.

Cleaned up the Schick

Today, I got inspired to clean and polish the old Schick E3 that was my Dad's razor. I use it regularly in my rotation, and it is a fine shaver. Here are some pictures of it all cleaned and polished. It has a home-made handle fashioned from some type of wood. My brother, Dick, tells me that Dad made the handle and presented the razor to him. I don't think Dick ever got into shaving with it though. He was gracious enough to pass it on to me though when I inquired about Dad's old Gillette. Didn't get anywhere with that inquiry except to get this little champ.

New Gem Jr

I won this beautiful little Gem Jr. in an eBay auction for $3.50. I was surprised and amazed.

It arrived in the mail today and it is even more beautiful in real life. It is in near pristine condition. I took it on its first shave with me and it did not disappoint. It handles very nicely. I always wondered about the fat handle, but it is so light and maneuverable that I have decided to keep it out  in my rotation for the foreseeable future.
