Shave of the Day - 3/31

It's official. I'm taking the day off for Thursday's shave. It is to get an extra day's growth so I can try out the WILD comb. So, the gear will get the day off as the beard gets another day to grow.

Rocnel Stainless Steel Single Edge Razor

On February 18, I pre-ordered the Rocnel Stainless Steel Single Edge razor.

I have been entered into the database. When it is ready I will be contacted. The razor is only $25. If this goes through, it will be an amazing razor.

These are some photos of the Rocnel razor as it was delivered to a TSD member.

March PIF

The Bottom-Dial Toggle Executive PIF

March is PIF month at The Shave Den. I have been wanting to do this pif for a while. For this PIF I wrote:

The mythical Bottom-Dial Toggle Executive is the Bigfoot or Sasquatch of the wet-shaving world. It is so rare that I made it up myself. So, if you win this pif, I will include a picture of it for you.

In the PIF were a user grade MMOC, an Ever-Ready 1912, my home made scuttle, and an assortment of shaving cream samples.

To enter, one had to provide a photo of Bigfoot or Sasquatch or something similar and say, "I'm in."

I made a collage of the photos.

I finished up the PIF on Monday, March 28. I got the package ready to go. There was a last place winner also who got an assortment of ten DE blades.

Shave of the Day - 3/28

TESC Pre-Shave Oil
Speick Shave Cream
Jayaruh #51 synthetic
The Bunny V3 with the NOTSO comb
Schick Injector
CWR, Asma Alum Block
Thayers Rose Petal WH
Speick After Shave

Last night I changed the comb to the NOTSO comb. I must tell you that I was a little timid coming to this morning's shave, but the NOTSO comb really came through. The Speick Shave Cream face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #51 synthetic brush. Two passes with The Bunny V3 injector razor with the NOTSO comb and a Schick Injector blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then Speick After Shave. Really, after the first pass, I could have gone away with a socially acceptable shave, but I did the second pass and got a really great shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

The Bunny Comb Change

I have shaved with The Bunny three times using the MILD comb. I decided that I should at least give the NOTSO comb a try. Changing out combs is a no-brainer. You simply unscrew the thumb screw, and the comb comes off easily.

After removing the comb, I noticed that there was some residue build up on the handle, so I got out my just-for-razors toothbrush. It cleaned up easily with a little water and gentle brushing.

Here it is with the residue all gone.

I put the NOTSO comb on and put the screw back in. It is ready for a new shave. That will come in the morning. I must remember to go slow and be cautious.

Now it is ready to shave. I made this razor stand for The Bunny. The original stand did not make the trip, but it will be coming later this week and will be reunited with The Bunny.

Shave of the Day - 3/27

Easter Sunday's

TESC Pre-Shave Oil
Speick Shave Cream
Jayaruh #51 synthetic
The Bunny V3
Schick Injector
CWR, Asma Alum Block
Thayers Rose Petal WH
Speick After Shave

All went well today. I continued with the MILD comb. I decided that when shaving under the nose, I will come at it from the side like I do with GEM razors. No issues today, just a great shave. Maybe I will break out the NOTSO tomorrow.

The Speick Shave Cream face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #51 synthetic brush. Two passes with The Bunny V3 injector razor and a Schick Injector blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then Speick After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

The Bunny V3
Schick Injector
CWR, Asma Alum Block
Thayers Rose Petal WH
Speick After Shave

The Speick Shave Cream face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #51 synthetic brush. Two passes with The Bunny V3 injector razor and a Schick Injector blade gave me a close, comfortable shave with one exception: I was a bit careless, and it bit me on my septum. I knew right away, but blood was contained, and I will live to shave another day. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then Speick After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

New Trade in the Works

I was contacted by Martin in Berlin, Germany, today with a proposal. He saw a picture of a brush I am working on and wanted to know if I was up for a trade. He knew that I had the Gillette Goodwill razor on my wish list, and he offered a fine French version of the Goodwill razor. This razor is a long comb razor with the ball end handle.

The brush on the right is the brush he wants. It is made of birdseye maple and has the Maggard 24mm synthetic knot. I am finishing it up this weekend. There is no postal holiday, so it will go out Monday.

I finished the JR#58.

Update: March 28

The package is in the mail.

Update: April 6, 2016

The Goodwill razor arrived today. Included in the package were 4 chocolates and a tube of Speick Shave Cream.

Shave of the Day - 3/25 - The Bunny

TESC Pre-Shave Oil
Speick Shave Cream
Jayaruh #51 synthetic
The Bunny V3
Schick Injector
CWR, Asma Alum Block
Thayers Rose Petal WH
Speick After Shave

The Bunny has landed, and this is our first shave together. Starting out with the mild with a Schick blade.

The mild comb seemed to be just right. After reading all the reviews, I got the angle right off the bat. The handle is of excellent design. I had no slippage issues, and the length of the handle and shape of the end made holding it on the end very intuitive. I actually had my first shave with The Bunny in my dreams last night. Very funny. It also was an excellent shave. That was shave number one.

The Bunny Arrives

After much waiting, The Bunny V3 has made its way to Cumberland Village, Hendersonville, North Cackalacky. I am number 3 on the list of the East Coast Bunny Pass Around. There are pressently 15 on that list. We each get to keep The Bunny for 10 days and then pass it on to the next person on the list.

The Bunny Stand was not in the box, so I made this stand out of some wood I had on hand.
