Gillette Super Speed

This is my new Gillette  Super Speed. Its manufacture code is Y1, which is the first quarter of 1953. That makes this razor 60 years old. This is my first Super Speed, and it is a beauty. It had not been cleaned, but I took care of that with Scubbing Bubbles and some MAAS Metal Polish. It works very well, and I look forward to taking it on our first shave together.

During World War two, the Super Speed appeared with limited production between 1942 and 1945. In 1946 full scale civilian production started and this original version of the Super Speed was available from 1947 to 1954. After that various versions of the Super Speed were made through 1986.

Gillette Old Style (1920s)

Just received this Gillette Milady Decollette open comb razor I won on Ebay. The handle is a ball end handle and is in great condition. Many of these that you find today have cracks in one or both ends of the middle section. This one is crackless. It has one bent tooth as you can see in the photo above. This type razor dates from the 1920s.

The pictures below are from the EBay auction.

I piffed this razor on August 21, 2014.

Shave of the Day 5/4

Back to the EJ 89 today. This is still a great modern razor. I love the quality of the workmanship and its heft (3 oz.).
