Straight Razor Stand

A gentleman in Pennsylvania saw my straight razor stand and contacted me to make him one if possible. As it turned out, it was possible. I was feeling great and had some time. Here it is finished showing off five of my straights. The size and shape of the tang will determine how much the blade is raised and displayed.

Jayaruh #413 and Razor Stand 9

I set out today to make this brush. I did glue ups on two blanks, this being one. While they set up, I turned my eyes and hands to making another straight razor stand. This one is stand #9.

New Stand for Straights

I created this stand for a single razor from a solid piece of oak. I stained it with dark walnut and finished with some polycrylic finish.

I saw something similar online and thought about it for a while before doing it. I used a piece of scrap wood that worked out very nicely.

Here is the setup for next Saturday's Straight shave.

Fifteen Razor Stand

Today I began making a stand for fifteen razors. It will have three rows for five razors each. Here are some pictures from today.

I started with a 1.5 x 1.5 inch by19 inch stick of oak.

After cutting all the pieces, I dry stacked them.

I drilled all the holes for the razors and softened the edges of the top pieces.

Nest came the glue up. I glued and clamped the three rows after assembling. Now  they are drying.

Here they are glued and clamped waiting for the glue to dry.

Unclamped and dry stacked.

Thursday, June 4

Here it is glued up and clamped.

Next, I stained and sealed the stand with Minwax Red Oak. Then finished it with Minwax polycrylic. I put felt pads on the feet. I loaded it up with fifteen of my razors.

Here are some more of my razors.

Fence Post Razor Stand

I made this stand from wood that came from a fence post that I recycled. After probably 30 years plus as a fence post, I replaced it with a new one. I cut up the old post and this is wood from the original post. I left one edge rustic. These pictures are before I put a finish on the stand.

I made the holes big enough to accommodate my straights, too.

Update: August 24, 2017

I finished the stand with Polycrylic. It provides a nice protective cover and makes the grain pop. In the following pictures my seven day set of straights are featured.

Seven Day Razor Stand

I made this seven razor stand from a piece of oak and finished it with polycrylic finish. I put felt pads on the bottom of the stand to keep the wood from contacting the counter.

Easy Dozen Razor Stand

I started this stand a couple of weeks ago when I cut out the four pieces you see in the picture. Since then, they have sat dormant. Today, I got out and set up the drill press and drilled out the holes for twelve Schick razors. Now, the holes are not quite big enough for the Schick I Hydro-Magic, so in the second picture you can see where I have expanded the holes using a drum sander. The holes are "square-rounds." The Schick I Hydro-Magic easily goes in and out of those holes, so any other Schick should easily go in them.

In the picture below holes have been expanded and the wood has been sanded. I will wait for another day to finish this up because the weather is not cooperating. It is getting cold and starting to rain.

March 16 Update

It was a beautiful day today but it started out cold. About 2:30 PM it got above 40, so I got out the machines and worked on the stand.
